It seems that you guys like your Shell V-Power Diesel very much despite it's lower cetane rating @ 42 is well below Sunoco Gold Diesel @ 46-yes that 4 cetane points. Even the PC & Sunoco ULSD Diesel cetane rating @ 44 are higher than the SVPD.
Cant say I can tell the difference by the seat of my pants with Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum. Tesco is so much cheaper though. Tried some asda 95 as it was an emergency fill up. Probably 5mpg worse. Thats on a turboed engine. Shell V-power diesel seemed to improve fuel consumption but not enough to justify the cost.
Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed in this forum: A search didn't turn up anything relevant. I was wondering what the benefits are in buying a premium diesel fuel versus the supermarket variety I tend to buy, where price is the primary motivator. I typically buy at Tesco. A BMW friend reckons Shell V-Power diesel is the best fuel.

Our one Shell gets it from the same style trucks that deliver to GetGo and Sheetz. But again, their additives are added in. "V-Power" from Shell, or Sunoco's "Ultra" are just marketing terms. Chemically however, Shell does put in more additives. BP is close behind. Sunoco is really unknown, haven't seen any tests.
Mar 19, 2010. #6. All of the Shell grades of gas have the Nitrogen blended cleaning system. I think the 87 has twice as much and the V-Power has 5X as much as other gasolines. My truck only calls for 87 but once in a while I run it low and fill up on V-Power and run it all the way down to about a quarter tank left and then re-fill with 87.

Below is a copy of the spec sheet for Shell V-Power diesel. Notice the top line - BS cetane rating for diesel is 51 - V-Power diesel guarantee 56 minimum. I have no idea what all the other stuff means, but that's the reason cars run smoother with premium fuels.
